The first champion of the Women’s World Championship will only be determined in the final race of the season. This Saturday, María Herrera won the first race in Jerez, successfully delaying the decision until tomorrow.
After Ana Carrasco (Evan Bros Racing Yamaha) reached the end of the first lap in the lead, Sara Sánchez (511 Terra&Vita Racing Team) led for a good part of the race, always with the front group very close together. Alongside Sánchez, Carrasco, Herrera (Klint Forward), and Beatriz Neila (Ampito Pata Prometeon Yamaha) also stood out at the front.
Sánchez suffered a crash in the penultimate lap, which sadly eliminated her from the chance to win. Herrera inherited the lead and maintained a solid position ahead of Carrasco until the end, winning with a 0.585s advantage.
Neila completed the podium 0.606s behind, followed by Roberta Ponziani (Yamaha Motoxracing) and Pakita Ruiz (PS Racing Team 46+1) in the top five.
Carrasco will start the last race of the year with 13 more points than Herrera, making them the only two riders with a chance to be champions. Herrera must finish on the podium and is also dependent on her rival’s result.
