The Philadelphia Phillies’ newest threads may have been inadvertently unveiled a little prematurely, and fans are not big on them.
At least if they’re the genuine article…
Someone found what appears to be a brand-new Phillies Nike City Connect jersey on eBay, and it is unlike anything the team has worn before.
I mean… what?
Of course, if this is part of the City Connect series, it’s par for the course for the colors and designs to have nothing to do with the team wearing it. That’s kind of the fun.
So, yeah a blue-to-navy gradient with yellow trim and “PHILLY” written in what looks like AC/DC’s font is bizarre for a Phillies jersey… but again, that’s the point.
Plus, the Phillies have experimented with their uniforms a bit over the decades, so why not try something new here?
Of course, that is if this is a genuine leak.
According to X-user @Gottagoto_MOs, there are a few details that seem to point to this being legit.
The correct template and logos with tags that seem to be correct aren’t enough to guarantee the validity of that jersey… but it doesn’t hurt.
Of course, as you probably expected, some fans were not impressed by what they saw from the leak.
And last but not least, my personal favorite comment:
Haunted house lettering indeed…
Now, not everyone hated them, and I think if you look at the jerseys on their own merit, they’re not a total abomination.
Still, imagine turning on a game, seeing those uniforms on the field, and then having your brain broken by the fact that that’s supposed to be the Phillies.
We should learn if those are the real deal soon enough, and hopefully, if it is, the completed uniform ties everything together.
