Jannik Sinner expressed his disappointment when doctors advised him against participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Italian tennis player had emphasized the significance of this event and considered it one of his main objectives for the season. Unfortunately, he was hindered by acute tonsillitis.
Sinner shared his feelings about missing the Olympics, stating that it was heartbreaking for him as it was one of his season goals. He faced difficulties during his illness, taking antibiotics for nearly a week and refraining from using his racket for several days. However, he mentioned that he has made significant progress since then and feels stronger with each passing day.
Acknowledging the circumstances, Sinner accepted that things didn’t go as planned due to the challenging tonsillitis. He plans to resume his tennis journey at the ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal.
The Italian player aims to defend his title from last year’s tournament in Toronto and further solidify his position as the world number 1, surpassing Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the rankings.
Sinner expressed his joy for his compatriot Lorenzo Musetti’s bronze medal at the Olympics. Although he couldn’t watch the match due to his training commitments, he intends to catch up on it. Feeling much better now, he is happy to be present at the tournament and is focused on preparing himself and maintaining his consistent performance throughout the year. Sinner admitted that he didn’t anticipate reaching the top rankings so quickly but emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and a positive working relationship with his team.
Jannik Sinner also shared his admiration for the men’s singles final at the Olympics, considering it to be one of the best two-set finals of all time. He enjoyed watching the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
