Cleveland Browns Offensive Line Coach Bill Callahan Leaves Team, Joins Tennessee Titans
In a shocking move, the Cleveland Browns have fired three offensive coaches following their devastating playoff loss in January. Adding to the chaos, a fourth coach has voluntarily walked away from the team.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Bill Callahan, a highly respected offensive line coach in the NFL, has resigned from his position with the Browns. He plans to join the coaching staff of the Tennessee Titans.
Callahan’s departure is significant as he has been instrumental in the Browns’ offensive success over the past four seasons. The Browns have granted him permission to interview with his son, Brian Callahan, who is the new head coach of the Titans. Brian has always expressed a desire to work with his father, and the details of their collaboration are currently being finalized.
Bill Callahan boasts an impressive coaching career spanning both the NFL and NCAA. He has served as the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders (formerly the Oakland Raiders) from 1998 to 2001 and the Dallas Cowboys from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, he briefly held the position of head coach for the Raiders, leading the team to an 11-5 record and an AFC Championship victory in 2002.
After leaving the Raiders, Callahan joined the Washington Commanders as their offensive line coach in 2014. He later assumed the role of interim head coach in 2019 and guided the team to a 3-8 record. The following year, Callahan joined the Browns’ coaching staff.
Brian Callahan, following in his father’s footsteps, has also made a name for himself in the coaching world. He has spent the last five seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, facing off against his father in multiple AFC North division games each year. Under Brian’s leadership, the Bengals have achieved a record of 31-19 over the past three seasons, including two playoff appearances.
During his introductory press conference with the Titans, Brian Callahan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to become a head coach in the NFL, highlighting the rarity of a father and son both holding such positions. With their new roles, Bill and Brian Callahan join an exclusive list of father-son head coaching duos in NFL history.
