Novak Djokovic will have to battle it out at Stade Roland Garros, as Carlos Alcaraz will receive support from his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.
The stage is set for the men’s singles final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz will face off at Court Philippe-Chatrier, competing for the gold medal.
This marks the first time both players have reached an Olympic final, adding to the intrigue of the match. While Djokovic has yet to secure a gold medal in four attempts, Alcaraz is vying for his first in his debut appearance.
The Spaniard has been in exceptional form this season, triumphing in two out of the three Grand Slam tournaments held thus far. Alcaraz also participated in the doubles event at the Games alongside Rafael Nadal, reaching the quarterfinals. Although they couldn’t progress further, their performance left a lasting impression. Alcaraz has carried this confidence into the singles event.
Now, he finds himself in the finals, ready to face Djokovic. Alcaraz’s prospects of winning the match are high, given his impressive performances on clay this season. Additionally, the 21-year-old will receive a significant boost as his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero returns for the final.
Spain’s tennis team captain, David Ferrer, has confirmed Ferrero’s presence in the gold medal match on Sunday. When asked if any changes would be made before the final, Ferrer stated that the team would stick to their routine. He also highlighted the advantage Alcaraz will have with the return of Carlos Ferrero to assist the young Spaniard. Notably, Ferrero was initially unavailable for the Games but has managed to find a way to support Alcaraz.
The gold medal match for the men’s singles event is scheduled for 2 PM (local time) on Sunday. This will be the seventh encounter between Djokovic and Alcaraz, with each player having won three matches thus far.
