The Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb are currently in a contractual deadlock that is expected to extend into preseason games and potentially cause him to miss the beginning of the regular season. Lamb, who is in the final year of his rookie contract, is holding out for a new agreement that would place him among the highest-paid wide receivers in the game.
The gap between the two parties appears to be widening, especially after Dallas Owner/GM Jerry Jones made absurd remarks about the negotiations on Thursday, much to Lamb’s evident displeasure. When questioned about Lamb’s contract situation, Jones provided a response that was far from satisfactory, particularly considering Lamb’s absence from practice thus far and the imminent arrival of Week 1. Given Lamb’s impressive performance of nearly 1,750 receiving yards last year and the lack of top-tier playmakers on the Cowboys’ roster, it is crucial for them to swiftly resolve this issue and reintegrate him into the team.
Naturally, CeeDee Lamb, who will turn 25 during the upcoming season, reacted poorly to Jones’ comments, as anticipated. In response, he made the decision to remove “America’s Team” from his Twitter bio.
It is understandable why Jerry Jones is determined to secure the best possible deal. The team faces the likelihood of a record-breaking contract extension for Micah Parsons, as well as the necessity to compensate Trevon Diggs. Additionally, they must also finalize an extension for Dak Prescott.
However, it is important to note that the Cowboys have achieved a 12-5 record in the past three seasons. Although there have been disappointments in the playoffs, there is a clear opportunity to contend for a Super Bowl title if they can successfully bring all the pieces together. Jerry Jones must find a way to reach an agreement that benefits one of the most promising young talents in the NFL.
