Skyportz, an Australia-based infrastructure company, is working to revolutionize air mobility with its futuristic vertiports. These vertiports are designed specifically for electric air taxi operations, ensuring efficiency and safety. To develop this new type of infrastructure, Skyportz has partnered with Dr. Abdulghani Mohamed, the head of the UAV research group at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University. Dr. Mohamed, who was named Engineering Professional of the Year in 2022 and Australian Scientist of the Year in 2021, brings expertise in turbulence modeling, aerodynamics, and aircraft control in challenging conditions. His knowledge will aid in selecting the best landing sites for air taxis, with a focus on advanced anti-turbulence technology to mitigate weather-related risks.
One of Skyportz’s futuristic concepts was introduced at the Airtaxi World Congress in San Francisco. This concept is a waterfront AAM hub that not only looks impressive but also offers significant advantages. The waterfront location enhances safety by providing clear approach and departure paths for air taxis. Additionally, it allows for the possibility of operating floating landing pads. This innovative design showcases Skyportz’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of air mobility infrastructure.
In addition to large-scale vertiports, Skyportz has also developed a modular hub for private properties. This unique vertiport, known as the Vertiport-in-a-Box, can be purchased by property owners for approximately $100,000. It offers versatility and can be used for various functions, such as entertainment venues or meeting rooms. With the integration of sustainable energy systems like solar power, it can also operate in an environmentally friendly manner. The Vertiport-in-a-Box was officially presented at the Paris Air Show, highlighting Skyportz’s dedication to creating innovative solutions for air mobility.
The development of vertiport infrastructure is reminiscent of the excitement surrounding hyperloop technology a few years ago. Both require an innovative scientific approach to disrupt existing mobility tech. Skyportz, through its collaboration with Dr. Abdulghani Mohamed, is at the forefront of this revolution, aiming to transform air mobility and make electric air taxis a reality.
