At 35, and after 12 years in the NFL, Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end Travis Kelce is facing the inevitable questions about his future in the sport. Retirement rumors are swirling, but for Kelce, the timeline isn’t set in stone. Speaking candidly on extratv, Kelce shared his thoughts on life after football and the importance of finding balance as he navigates his career’s twilight years.
Reflecting on his journey and the new opportunities that have come his way—especially after winning Super Bowl LVII—Kelce revealed, “I’m at a time in my life where I’m getting a lot of opportunities, and when you win the Super Bowl, doors open for you. I think that I’ve enjoyed playing football my entire life.”
The star tight end, who has become synonymous with the Chiefs’ success, emphasized the thrill of competing for championships. “When you get a chance to play for a championship year in and year out, it’s the best feeling in the world. So, I’m a football player at first, but everything that I do in the offseason, it is a fun yin to the yang.”
Kelce also touched on the wisdom he gained from his fellow NFL pros, including Patriots legend Julian Edelman, who retired in 2021. For Kelce, it’s all about balance. “You gotta have the balance in life,” he said. “Football doesn’t last forever, and I just gotta make sure that I’m set up for what’s next.”
It’s clear Kelce is playing it smart. By diversifying his interests and ventures off the field while still focusing on his game, he’s setting himself up for a successful transition whenever he chooses to hang up his cleats. But one thing remains true—he’s not done chasing championships just yet.
