Jayden Daniels has had a fantastic start to his NFL career, guiding the Washington Commanders to a strong 4-1 record. But as the buzz grows around Daniels, fans and analysts are quick to draw comparisons to another dual-threat QB, Ravens’ star Lamar Jackson. Veteran Commanders tight end Zach Ertz, however, thinks it’s way too soon for that.
Ertz believes that putting Daniels in the same category as Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, is premature. “It’s unfair for a rookie to be compared in the same bracket with a two-time NFL MVP,” Ertz said, urging the media to give Daniels room to grow without the weight of such lofty expectations.
In just five games, Daniels has shown flashes of brilliance, racking up over 1,400 yards (both passing and rushing) and eight touchdowns, along with a passer rating of 106.2. He’s been a major factor in the Commanders’ early success, as they’ve scored at least 20 points in every game, topping 34 in three of them. Despite the Lamar comparisons, Daniels is quick to stay grounded. “I’m not the second coming of Lamar Jackson,” he stated, shutting down the hype.
As Washington prepares for a high-stakes showdown against Baltimore, the excitement is building. But with the Ravens’ home-field advantage, Daniels and the Commanders will have a real test ahead to earn their fifth win.
