Cameron Smith, the 150th Open champion, has made waves with a bold declaration, calling his switch from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf the “best decision of my life.” In an interview with the Herald Sun, Smith revealed how the move not only transformed his career but also his personal life, leaving him “a much happier person.”
Smith, 31, who captains the all-Australian Ripper GC team, has enjoyed immense success since joining the Saudi-backed circuit, including leading his team to their first-ever season-ending Team Championship win. But for Smith, it’s more than just the accolades or the money—though he’s earned over $40 million in just two and a half seasons, nearly $15 million more than his entire PGA Tour career.
“It’s not just about the money,” Smith said. “I feel like I’m a much happier person now compared to where I was before.” He highlighted the flexibility and freedom that LIV Golf offers, allowing him to spend more time in Australia, far from the relentless grind of the PGA Tour.
Smith’s teammate, Lucas Herbert, echoed these sentiments, praising the “perfect schedule” LIV provides. Herbert emphasized the benefits of working on his game while enjoying the perks of having travel and accommodation taken care of by LIV.
As Smith prepares to compete in four tournaments on home soil, his bold move to LIV seems to be paying off—both on the course and in life.
