New Jersey Devils kick off training camp with veteran tryouts

As the New Jersey Devils gear up for the upcoming season, training camp opens on September 17th, bringing with it a wave of familiar faces and fresh opportunities. Among the latest additions are veterans Kevin Rooney, Luke Glendening, Adam Scheel, and Georgi Romanov, each signed to professional tryout contracts, as announced by the team on Friday.

Rooney returns to the Devils

Of the four players invited to join the camp, Kevin Rooney stands out as the only one with prior experience in a Devils uniform. The forward suited up for the team across four seasons from 2016 to 2020, making a notable impact during his tenure. Rooney began his journey in the NHL with the Devils in the 2016-17 season after going undrafted and spending time in the now-defunct North American Hockey League.

His experience with the Devils includes valuable playoff appearances, where he showcased his grit and determination on the ice. Since leaving the team, Rooney has continued to develop his game, making his way back to New Jersey to compete for a spot as the season approaches.

Veteran presence adds depth

Joining Rooney are Luke Glendening, Adam Scheel, and Georgi Romanov, all of whom bring their own unique skill sets to the training camp. Glendening, known for his defensive prowess and faceoff skills, has made a name for himself in the league as a reliable forward. Meanwhile, Scheel and Romanov, both looking to prove themselves, offer potential depth at critical positions.

The decision to sign these veterans underscores the Devils’ commitment to fostering a competitive environment as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season. With training camp just around the corner, the stage is set for these players to vie for roster spots and make a case for their futures within the organization.

As the Devils embark on this new chapter, fans will be eagerly watching to see how these veterans contribute to the team’s quest for success.
