With the focus on enhancing secondary scoring this summer, the interest in Roslovic seems to have cooled significantly.

NHL insider Chris Johnston shared insights on his show, indicating that the Maple Leafs currently find themselves in a situation where they have an abundance of forwards at training camp. “I don’t see the Leafs as being as much a fit right now, just cause if anything, they have too many forwards in camp,” Johnston remarked. He pointed out that the team is likely facing a scenario where one or possibly two forwards may need to be moved before the season begins. This could involve waivers or assignments to the American Hockey League, suggesting that the Maple Leafs are not in a position to add another forward like Roslovic at this time.
With an excess of talent vying for roster spots, adding Roslovic—who is coming off a one-year, $2.8 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes—would complicate matters further. Last season, Roslovic demonstrated his offensive abilities, contributing 22 goals and 17 assists for a total of 39 points over 81 games. However, with training camp already underway, competition for spots among players such as Nick Robertson, Easton Cowan, Calle Jarnkrok, and David Kampf is fierce.
Management’s Stance on Roster Changes
Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving remains open to potential roster changes but acknowledges the complexities of their situation. “We’re always looking. I don’t think you ever stop,” Treliving stated. “Whether it happens or not, we’ll see. We’ve got a lot of bodies right now, so we’ll see. More than likely, unless something changes, we’ll go with what we’ve got and see where it all sorts itself out.”
With the team holding just under $2 million in cap space, there remains a possibility for adding talent, although the immediate focus appears to be on leveraging their existing roster.
Roslovic’s Future and Market Status
Meanwhile, Roslovic’s pursuit of a multi-year contract remains uncertain as he navigates his free agency. NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported that Roslovic is seeking a deal that extends beyond a single season. He has recently changed agents, now represented by Justin Duberman, after reportedly turning down an offer from the Edmonton Oilers.
Roslovic’s previous one-year deal in Carolina for $2.8 million was a solid performance, yet finding a long-term commitment at this juncture may prove challenging with teams largely finalizing their rosters. As the market evolves, it appears that both the Maple Leafs and the Oilers have shifted their focus away from adding Roslovic, leaving the 28-year-old forward in search of a new opportunity.
