Hughes brothers’ NHL reunion rumors swirl as New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers battle for family supremacy

Hughes Brothers’ NHL Reunion Sparks Speculation Amid Yankees Rivalry

The prospect of the Hughes brothers reuniting in the NHL has become a hot topic among hockey fans and analysts alike. While the timeline for such a reunion remains uncertain, the prevailing sentiment within the hockey community suggests it is not a matter of if, but when. Most observers anticipate that this reunion will manifest with Quinn Hughes joining his brothers, Jack and Luke, on the New Jersey Devils.

The Rangers Rumor Mill

However, recent discussions have introduced an unexpected twist. Former NHL player Paul Bissonnette stirred the pot on the “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast, revealing intriguing rumors that some family members envision a different scenario: a collective move to the New York Rangers. Bissonnette remarked, “I have heard rumblings that someone in the family wants them to be Rangers, New York Rangers. Depending on how the next year goes, maybe you could give it two years; I would assume that they just all end up and stay in New Jersey. I think it’s inevitable.”

This speculation raises questions about the feasibility of such a scenario. Bissonnette elaborated further, noting that Luke Hughes is poised to receive a substantial entry-level contract while Jack Hughes still has four to five years left on his current eight-year deal. “And then my assumption is the Canucks are going to be like, ‘Listen, what do you want to do?’ and they have to want to get a boatload in return because you can’t lose him for nothing,” he added.

Contract Considerations

Currently, Quinn Hughes has two years left on the six-year, $47.1 million contract extension he signed with the Vancouver Canucks in 2021. The likelihood of a reunion in New Jersey seems more plausible than the Rangers scenario, especially when considering the dynamics at play.

With Jack and Luke Hughes expected to secure long-term deals with the Devils, the organization has little incentive to part ways with them. As Bissonnette suggested, if the Canucks find themselves struggling this season, they might be more inclined to explore trade options. However, the thought of losing Quinn Hughes without a significant return would surely weigh heavily on their decision-making.

A Family Legacy in the Making

As the season progresses, the landscape of the NHL and the future of the Hughes brothers will continue to evolve. While the notion of the trio suiting up for the same team in New Jersey remains the front-runner, the whispers of a Rangers reunion add an intriguing layer to the ongoing narrative.

For now, the spotlight remains firmly on the Devils as they prepare for a season filled with potential. The possibility of the Hughes brothers finally sharing the ice together in the NHL is a captivating storyline that fans will be eager to follow.
