Easton Cowan Impresses at Maple Leafs Camp

As the Toronto Maple Leafs gear up for the upcoming season, one name is rising to the forefront: Easton Cowan. The 20-year-old forward has left a significant impression during the preseason, showcasing his potential and readiness to make an impact in the NHL.

Coach’s Confidence in Cowan

Cowan participated in five of the Maple Leafs’ six preseason games, and his contributions did not go unnoticed by head coach Craig Berube. When asked about Cowan’s readiness for the NHL, Berube responded affirmatively, noting the player’s impressive performance.

“Yeah, I think he is. We got decisions to make, but I think he showed us enough that he is ready,” Berube stated. “He’s got a motor on him. You know, he impresses me with his motor. Like, he’s just constant work, and he’s got a high IQ. I like him a lot.”

Cowan’s relentless work ethic and hockey intelligence have positioned him as a standout candidate for a roster spot.

Cowan’s Preseason Performance

Selected in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft, Cowan’s preseason contributions included two assists. However, beyond the statistics, he expressed a sense of growth throughout the camp.

“I felt like throughout camp, I got better and better each and every day,” Cowan remarked. “Obviously, the numbers weren’t there, but I felt like I played a good 200-foot game and I felt really good in my game. I know if I keep working in practice on my shot, eventually the chances will go in. So, yeah, I felt like I had a really good preseason.”

His self-awareness and commitment to improvement highlight a maturity that could serve him well as he transitions to the NHL.

A Promising Start to the Season

The Maple Leafs are set to open their season on Wednesday against their historic rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, with a 7 p.m. start time. Toronto is keen on building upon a successful 2024-25 season, and Cowan’s emergence could provide the extra push needed to elevate the team’s performance.

As the excitement builds for the season opener, all eyes will be on Cowan to see if he can translate his preseason promise into tangible results on the ice.
