Injury Blow for Cardinals as Adams Steps Up Against Buccaneers

The Arizona Cardinals face a significant setback ahead of their clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as starting right guard Will Hernandez will be sidelined due to a hip injury. Hernandez, who exited last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and did not return, has been officially ruled out for Sunday’s matchup. Head coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed Hernandez’s absence, along with that of teammates Trey Benson and Walter Nolen III, during a press conference on Friday.

Hernandez’s Impact on the Offensive Line

Hernandez’s departure leaves a considerable void on the offensive line. Since returning from an ACL tear last season, he has solidified his position, demonstrating a clear advantage over Isaiah Adams, who is set to take his place. While Hernandez may not have reached All-Pro status, he has undeniably enhanced the overall performance of the offensive line. The Cardinals initially entrusted Adams with the starting role at the beginning of the season; however, it became evident that the former Illinois standout was not quite ready for the rigors of a full-time starting position in the NFL.

Adams is now being thrust back into the spotlight, tasked with proving his worth after a rocky start to the season. The opportunity to step in for Hernandez not only provides a chance for redemption but also an essential moment for Adams to showcase his growth and resilience.

Adams Ready for Redemption

Coach Gannon expressed optimism about Adams’ mindset heading into this pivotal game. “He’s just excited about the opportunity to go play, and play well for us, and play the brand of ball that he wants to play,” Gannon remarked. He emphasized that Adams has shown improvement, particularly in his technique and mental approach over the past month.

After being benched in favor of Hernandez, Adams now finds himself in a familiar yet challenging position. As a former third-round pick, he has the potential to rise to the occasion. The upcoming game against the Buccaneers represents not just a chance to fill a gap on the offensive line, but also an opportunity for Adams to reclaim his standing within the team and demonstrate his capability in a critical moment.

With the game day approaching, all eyes will be on Adams as he takes the field, eager to turn the page on a difficult start and contribute to the Cardinals’ efforts against a formidable opponent.
