Washington Commanders eye game-changing pick with Jordyn Tyson in mock draft shake-up

The Washington Commanders find themselves in a precarious position as the season unfolds. With a dismal 3-8 record after 11 games, the team is looking for a silver lining. This challenging season could translate into a high draft pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, offering the opportunity to address significant weaknesses on the roster.

Potential Game-Changer in the Draft

Recent mock drafts have highlighted a promising direction for the Commanders. Contributor Ayrton Ostly from USA Today projected that the team would select Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the No. 7 overall pick. “Washington has built a promising offensive line in front of Jayden Daniels, and now the franchise needs to get him some weapons in the passing game,” Ostly noted. Tyson, who began the year as the top wide receiver prospect, has maintained that status. While he may not possess breakaway speed, his ability to create separation through sharp route-running and reliable hands makes him a valuable asset.

Immediate Impact for the Commanders

In the mock draft, Tyson was among several high-profile players selected before him, including Auburn pass rusher Keldric Faulk, Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, Miami pass rusher Rueben Bain Jr., Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, and Ohio State defensive back Caleb Downs. For the Commanders, Tyson represents an urgent need as they look to bolster their receiving corps, particularly in the absence of Terry McLaurin, who has struggled with a quad injury throughout the season.

Last year, Tyson caught the attention of NFL scouts, amassing 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns, contributing significantly to Arizona State’s success in winning the Big 12 and advancing to the College Football Playoff. This season, he has continued to excel, recording 59 catches for 689 yards and eight touchdowns.

Strategic Focus on the Draft

While the Commanders have multiple areas to address, securing a top-tier wide receiver should be a priority. If they choose Tyson, they would be acquiring the consensus best wideout in the rookie class, a move that could significantly enhance their offensive capabilities. As the Commanders look toward the draft, the opportunity to select a player of Tyson’s caliber could prove to be a pivotal step in their rebuilding process.

As the season continues to unfold, fans and analysts alike will be keenly observing how the Commanders navigate their way through the challenges ahead.
