Vikings’ offensive line in turmoil as Darrisaw and Jackson face game-day uncertainty

Vikings Face Offensive Line Dilemma Ahead of Game Day

As the Minnesota Vikings gear up for their weekend matchup, uncertainty looms over the offensive line that will protect quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Both left tackle Christian Darrisaw and left guard Donovan Jackson have been marked as questionable on the team’s final injury report, as announced by head coach Kevin O’Connell.

Injury Concerns for Jackson

Donovan Jackson, the Vikings’ first-round rookie, is currently grappling with an ankle injury sustained a couple of weeks ago against Green Bay. His absence was felt in last week’s game against Seattle, and he did not practice on Wednesday. However, in a promising turn, Jackson managed to participate in a limited capacity during Thursday and Friday sessions, which gives him a glimmer of hope for game participation. Should he be unable to play, veteran Blake Brandel is poised to step in and make his mark on the field.

Darrisaw’s Status Raises Eyebrows

Christian Darrisaw’s questionable status comes as a bit of a surprise, especially considering O’Connell’s earlier comments suggesting the star left tackle was on track for a standard week of preparation following his missed game against Seattle. Darrisaw fully participated in practice on Wednesday but took a step back, resting on Thursday as part of a season-long maintenance plan for his knee. He returned to practice in some capacity on Friday, which offers a glimmer of optimism. If Darrisaw is unable to go, Justin Skule would be the next man up at left tackle. O’Connell expressed cautious optimism regarding both players, stating, “Both CD and Donovan got some great work in today. (We’ll) see how they turn over over the next 24 hours, and hopefully have both those guys for the game.”

Defensive Absences and Chandler’s Uncertain Return

On the defensive side, the Vikings confirmed that safety Theo Jackson and defensive tackle Levi Drake Rodriguez will not suit up for the game due to neck injuries. While these losses are manageable, they do add to the growing list of challenges Minnesota faces.

Additionally, running back and return specialist Ty Chandler is listed as questionable. He has been on injured reserve since Week 1 due to a knee injury but returned to a full practice on Thursday. For Chandler to take the field, he must be activated by Saturday.

Final Injury Report Snapshot

Out: Theo Jackson, Levi Drake Rodriguez
Questionable: Ty Chandler, Christian Darrisaw, Donovan Jackson

As the Vikings prepare to face their opponent, the status of their offensive line remains a focal point. With crucial decisions looming, fans and players alike will be watching closely to see who is able to take the field on game day.
