Vikings Injury Update: Hockenson’s Progress and Darrisaw’s Worrying Status

As the Minnesota Vikings gear up for their Sunday Night Football clash against the Dallas Cowboys, the team’s second injury report of the week reveals some encouraging developments alongside concerning news.

Hockenson’s Optimistic Outlook

Tight end T.J. Hockenson, who recently appeared on the injury report due to a shin issue, has shown progress by moving from a “Did Not Participate” (DNP) status to a limited participant in Thursday’s practice. This shift marks a positive sign for his potential availability this weekend.

Hockenson’s return would undoubtedly be a significant boost for the Vikings’ offense, especially as they prepare to face a formidable opponent in Dallas. Head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed optimism, noting that Hockenson received clarity from the medical staff and additional expert opinions. “He should be able to work back in this week,” O’Connell said, highlighting the team’s cautious yet hopeful approach to managing Hockenson’s recovery.

Defensive Reinforcements on the Horizon

In a promising turn for the defense, three players—left guard Donovan Jackson (ankle), safety Theo Jackson (neck), and defensive tackle Levi Drake Rodriguez (neck)—have progressed from limited participation to full practice on Thursday. Both Theo Jackson and Rodriguez were sidelined during last week’s game against the Commanders due to their respective injuries. Neck injuries can be particularly tricky, and the Vikings will be relieved to see both players on track for a return, which could strengthen their defensive depth as they face a high-powered Cowboys offense.

O’Connell remarked on Theo Jackson’s progress, stating, “He got some more clarity from our medical staff, and also some expert opinions outside,” indicating a thorough evaluation process designed to ensure player safety.

Darrisaw’s Absence Raises Concerns

On a more concerning note, left tackle Christian Darrisaw has yet to practice this week due to a knee issue. Traditionally, Darrisaw would follow a routine of practicing on Wednesday before taking Thursday off, making his absence from Wednesday’s practice particularly noteworthy. This deviation from his normal schedule raises alarms about his health leading into a crucial game.

Other Injury Updates

Wide receiver Jordan Addison (Achilles), running back Aaron Jones (shoulder), and safety Josh Metellus (shoulder) have all been listed as limited participants in practice over the past two days. Their statuses remain uncertain as the weekend approaches, and the team will be monitoring their conditions closely.

As the Vikings prepare for their matchup against the Cowboys, the injury report will be closely watched, especially with the final update expected on Friday. This Sunday promises to be a pivotal game for Minnesota, and the health of key players will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their performance.
