Trevon Diggs’ Return Could Ignite Cowboys’ Playoff Push

The Dallas Cowboys are entering the home stretch of the NFL regular season with the weight of their playoff aspirations resting squarely on their shoulders. With just four weeks remaining, each game carries monumental significance, especially as the race for the NFC East title heats up once more. Fortunately for Dallas, a glimmer of hope emerged on Monday night when the potential path to the division crown reopened. Yet, the Cowboys know they must take care of their own business to maintain momentum toward the postseason.

Trevon Diggs’ Impact on the Defense

One player who holds the key to revitalizing the Cowboys’ defense is All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs. After spending time on injured reserve due to a persistent knee injury, Diggs is eager to return to the field. His presence in the secondary could be a game-changer for a unit that has struggled mightily throughout the season.

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones shared his insights on Diggs’ condition during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan. He expressed cautious optimism about the cornerback’s availability for the upcoming Sunday Night Football clash against the Minnesota Vikings.

“If he’s ready to go, has a week of practice – and we’ve got a lot of eyes on him – if he likes what he sees, feels good, and we’re comfortable with putting him out there, he will be active,” Jones said.

Challenges Faced by the Secondary

The Cowboys’ secondary has faced its share of challenges, currently ranking 30th in the league in pass defense. The absence of Diggs has been felt, and his return could significantly bolster a group that has struggled to contain opposing passing attacks. The need for improvement is urgent, especially as the team approaches a critical juncture in the season.

Diggs was initially hopeful about returning for last week’s matchup against the Detroit Lions, but he was ultimately unable to take the field. As the Cowboys gear up for their pivotal stretch run, getting back to full strength is essential for their playoff ambitions.
