Trevon Diggs remains an enigma as Jerry Jones reveals lack of contact since concussion

The mystery surrounding Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs continues to deepen. After missing the team’s commanding Week 7 victory due to a concussion, Diggs has not been seen by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones since the incident at his home.

Concussion Incident and Current Status

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed on Friday that Diggs would be sidelined for the upcoming clash against the Washington Commanders due to the concussion he sustained during a home accident. Details surrounding the nature of this accident remain unclear, leaving fans and analysts speculating about the circumstances. However, Jones expressed optimism about Diggs’ potential return next weekend.

Interestingly, during his post-game press conference following the Cowboys’ triumphant victory, Jones revealed that he has not had any contact with Diggs since the concussion symptoms emerged. This lack of communication raises further questions about the cornerback’s condition and recovery process.

Focus on Recovery

While the situation might seem concerning, it is plausible that Diggs is simply prioritizing his recovery, adhering to the necessary protocols to ensure a swift return. Jones reassured media members that Diggs would still receive his game check, quelling any rumors that his absence might be linked to anything other than his concussion.

Despite Diggs’ absence, the Cowboys’ defense put forth one of its most impressive performances of the season. The implementation of a more aggressive man coverage scheme, a shift Diggs had previously advocated for, paid dividends. The defense capitalized on this strategy, recording multiple sacks and turnovers. Notably, DaRon Bland, known for his knack for interceptions, marked his return to form with a touchdown from an interception, adding to the defensive success.

The Journey of Trevon Diggs

This season, Diggs is striving to bounce back after two consecutive years cut short by knee injuries. The unexpected occurrence of a concussion adds another layer of complexity to his comeback. Over six games this season, Diggs has compiled 18 tackles but has yet to register an interception or pass defended.

Earlier in the season, Diggs faced a brief benching. While the coaching staff attributed the decision to injury concerns, Diggs himself believed it was a response to his sluggish start. Having earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2021 and leading the NFL with 11 interceptions that year, he has also faced scrutiny for his aggressive style, which sometimes leads to giving up significant plays.

Since signing a lucrative five-year, $97 million extension, Diggs has played in only 19 of 37 games. His journey through injuries and performance challenges has been a rollercoaster, leaving fans eagerly awaiting his return to form.

Looking Ahead

As the Cowboys prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Denver Broncos, the team hopes to maintain the momentum established during their recent victory. With Diggs’ status still uncertain, the focus will be on how the defense can continue to evolve and adapt in his absence. The situation remains fluid, and as more information unfolds, the Cowboys and their fans will be closely monitoring Diggs’ recovery journey.
