Trevon Diggs and Dallas Cowboys relationship “severed” amid explosive tension and salary cut drama

Trevon Diggs and the Dallas Cowboys Relationship in Turmoil

Trevon Diggs, once a cornerstone of the Dallas Cowboys’ defense, finds himself in a precarious situation as tensions rise between him and the franchise. After a week of practice that hinted at a potential return for Week 15 against the Minnesota Vikings, the optimism surrounding his comeback has been overshadowed by reports of a fractured relationship with the team.

Breaking Point in the Relationship

Reports indicate that Diggs’ relationship with the Cowboys has “soured” and may now be “severed.” This revelation comes from insider Jordan Schultz, suggesting that the former All-Pro cornerback will not make his anticipated return this Sunday. The mounting tension is not a new phenomenon; it has been a recurrent theme throughout the season.

Salary Cuts and Support for Teammates

Earlier this season, Diggs experienced friction with the organization due to his approach to rehabilitation, which led to a significant salary cut of $500,000. Compounding the drama, he openly supported teammate Micah Parsons, who was traded just before the season commenced. The situation took a bizarre turn with a concussion saga that resulted in Diggs being placed on injured reserve, raising further questions about his long-term future with the team.

A Potential Exit from Dallas

Diggs, drafted in the second round out of Alabama in 2020, emerged as a star in 2021, amassing 11 interceptions. His ability to create turnovers drew both praise and criticism for the big plays he surrendered. The following year, he continued to evolve, earning a lucrative five-year, $97 million contract extension prior to the 2023 season. However, since signing, his ability to stay healthy has been a challenge.

In 2023, Diggs played only two games due to a torn ACL, and while he returned for 11 games in 2024, another knee injury derailed his season. This year, he has participated in six games but has not appeared fully comfortable on his surgically-repaired knee.

With the relationship between Diggs and the Cowboys seemingly reaching a breaking point, it appears increasingly likely that this season could mark the end of his tenure in Dallas. The future remains uncertain as the team and player navigate this tumultuous situation, leaving fans to wonder if they have seen the last of Diggs in a Cowboys uniform.
