Tre Brown’s NFC West tour continues as Rams gamble on former Seattle cornerback for much-needed depth

Tre Brown’s NFC West Journey Continues with Rams

Tre Brown, once a promising fourth-round pick for the Seattle Seahawks, finds himself navigating the NFC West for the third time in just two seasons. After a lackluster stint in Seattle, he has signed with the Los Angeles Rams, stepping into a crucial role for a team that is in desperate need of cornerback depth.

A Shifting Landscape in Seattle

The cornerback landscape for the Seahawks has undergone significant changes in recent years. Seattle has bolstered its secondary with the additions of Riq Woolen in 2022, Devon Witherspoon in 2023, and Josh Jobe last season. This influx of talent ultimately led to Brown being released during the offseason as the Seahawks opted to invest in their emerging cornerback trio.

Drafted in 2021, Brown initially showed promise but struggled to secure a consistent role within the team. His departure from Seattle was marked by free agency, where he signed a one-year, $1.7 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers, which included $500,000 guaranteed. However, Brown never stepped onto the field in a game for the 49ers, as he was released after sustaining a heel injury in August, resulting in an injury settlement.

A New Opportunity with the Rams

Now, the Rams have taken a chance on Brown after placing Ahkello Witherspoon on injured reserve due to a broken clavicle. Brown’s arrival comes at a pivotal moment for Los Angeles, which is looking to shore up its cornerback depth. His previous experience with the Seahawks, where he played in 39 games and started 13, provides the Rams with a player who has demonstrated flashes of potential. Over his Seattle tenure, Brown accumulated 74 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions—one of which he returned for a touchdown—and eight pass deflections.

Despite his occasional standout performances, Brown’s time in Seattle was marred by inconsistency and injuries that often kept him from making a lasting impact on the field. His inability to secure significant playing time since 2023 has raised questions about his durability and readiness to contribute. However, the Rams are optimistic that they can provide the environment he needs to thrive.

The Road Ahead

As Brown joins the Rams, he enters a situation filled with both opportunity and pressure. The chance to carve out a significant role in a new system could be just what he needs to revitalize his career. Los Angeles is eager to see if Brown can channel his potential into consistent performance, solidifying their secondary as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming season. With the NFC West being a highly competitive division, every addition counts, and Brown’s journey is one to watch as he attempts to make his mark in a familiar landscape.
