Tommy DeVito prepares for Patriots vs Giants clash
In a much-anticipated matchup, New England Patriots quarterback Tommy DeVito is gearing up for a showdown against his former team, the New York Giants, at Gillette Stadium in Week 13. For DeVito, this game is “not personal, but strictly business.”
From MetLife to Gillette
The Livingston, NJ native spent the first two seasons of his NFL career on the blue side of MetLife Stadium, where he developed a strong connection with the Giants’ fanbase. Now, as he settles into his new home in southern New England, DeVito reflects fondly on his time in New York, yet he’s fully committed to his role with the Patriots.
“I loved my time there,” DeVito remarked, reminiscing about his early days in the NFL. “When I was there, it was, ‘Go Giants,’ but now it’s ‘Go Pats’ all the way. I hope we blow them out.” His enthusiasm for the upcoming game is palpable, indicating a blend of competitive spirit and professional respect.
A Rising Star
After signing with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2023, DeVito quickly became a fan favorite, known not only for his exciting playing style but also for his Italian-American heritage. During his rookie season, he started six games, achieving a 3-3 record, with 1,101 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions.
However, his journey took a turn in 2024 when he found himself primarily in a backup role. In limited appearances, he completed 31 passes for 257 yards across three games. This summer, a crowded quarterback depth chart saw DeVito listed behind established names like Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart. Consequently, the Giants made the decision to cut DeVito, intending to re-sign him to their practice squad.
A New Opportunity
Dart’s rise to the starting position and Winston’s role as the primary backup left DeVito looking for a new opportunity. His impressive performance in the Patriots’ preseason finale against the Giants—where he completed 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns—captured the attention of Patriots fans. Many were vocal in their desire to have him join the quarterback room, which features starter Drake Maye and veteran Joshua Dobbs.
As DeVito prepares to face his former team, the excitement surrounding the game builds. His transition from Giants quarterback to a key player for the Patriots adds an intriguing layer to this matchup, promising a competitive atmosphere as he steps onto the field in Foxborough.
