Titans meltdown continues as Cam Ward admits team “hasn’t made any strides” after Jaguars defeat

Titans struggle for progress after Jaguars defeat

The Tennessee Titans’ search for their elusive second victory of the season continues after suffering a disheartening 25-3 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13. This loss marks the Titans’ seventh consecutive setback, casting a shadow over any hopes of improvement. Following the game, Titans quarterback Cam Ward expressed a stark reality felt throughout the locker room: the team is not advancing as needed.

Cam Ward’s candid reflection

“I mean, I’m big on results. So, win or loss is the only thing I care about,” Ward stated in the aftermath of the game. His frustration was palpable as he reflected on the team’s stagnant performance. “Strides, we haven’t made any strides. We’ve got the same outcome for the last couple of weeks. So, it’s more about just winning a football game now. Don’t matter how it gets done, whether one side of the ball is playing good and the other side isn’t, or special teams wins the game for us, but it comes down to just winning games.”

The rookie quarterback’s perspective underscores a grim reality: despite close contests against playoff contenders like the Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks, the Titans have regressed against the Jaguars, failing to capitalize on any momentum gained.

Self-inflicted wounds persist

Ward pointed to recurring issues that have plagued the Titans all season long, emphasizing the need for accountability. “The same stuff that’s been happening all season, just self-inflicted wounds,” he lamented. He noted his own role in the team’s struggles, specifically mentioning a missed opportunity during an early three-and-out. “Myself on the first three-and-out, I need to progress, throw right over the ball. Then the second one, probably just step up and run for it. So everything is just self-inflicted. It’s been like that the whole year and it was like that today.”

The statistics tell a sobering story: the Titans committed 10 penalties for a staggering 86 yards and converted merely two of 12 third-down attempts. Out of 11 offensive drives, five ended with a punt, three resulted in turnovers on downs, and two concluded with fumbles. Such disarray highlights a critical need for reflection and adjustment.

The road ahead

Despite the disheartening performance, the Titans have little choice but to regroup and address these issues in practice. With only five games remaining, each contest will serve as an opportunity to evaluate the players and determine who will be part of the team’s future.

Looking ahead, a matchup against the struggling Cleveland Browns—who also sit with just three wins this season—could present the Titans with a chance to secure that coveted second victory. Such a win could be the catalyst for momentum as the team navigates the final stretch of the year.

As the Titans prepare to face the Browns, the urgency to break the losing streak has never been more pronounced. The time for results is now, and the team must rise to the occasion if they hope to salvage their season.
