Texans’ DeMeco Ryans warns team: Don’t underestimate legendary Pete Carroll despite Raiders’ struggles

DeMeco Ryans on the Respect for Pete Carroll

As the Houston Texans gear up to face the Las Vegas Raiders this weekend, head coach DeMeco Ryans is keenly aware of the weight that Pete Carroll’s name carries in the NFL coaching landscape. Despite Carroll’s current struggles, leading the Raiders to a dismal 2-12 record, Ryans emphasizes the importance of not underestimating a legendary figure known for his extensive coaching legacy.

“One thing I’ll say about Pete Carroll, he’s a legend in this game,” Ryans stated, underscoring his deep respect for Carroll. “He’s done it for a long time at a high level. I have a ton of respect for Pete and what he’s done at the college level and winning, and going on up in Seattle to do a great job there and win. He’s always won games. He knows what it takes. He knows what winning football looks like.”

The Undiminished Energy of a Coaching Icon

At 74 years old, one might expect Carroll to show signs of fatigue after years of leading teams to success. Yet, Ryans has observed no decline in Carroll’s trademark vigor. In fact, he marvels at the energy Carroll brings to the field, a quality that seems to uplift his players even in difficult times.

“He has an unmatchable energy at being over 70 years old,” Ryans noted. “To watch him on the sideline, to watch him in all of his interviews or meetings, it’s always positive energy, and I love that about Pete. I can see that the team feeds off of what he brings.”

Staying Focused Amid Success

For the Texans, who are riding high on a six-game winning streak, maintaining focus is crucial. Ryans has made it clear that complacency cannot creep into their mindset. With Carroll’s experience and tactical acumen, the Raiders present a unique challenge that the Texans must navigate carefully.

The Texans’ locker room is buzzing with the awareness that this matchup has the potential to become a classic trap game. As they prepare for the contest, the message is clear: respect the opponent, regardless of their record. The journey to success demands vigilance, and Ryans is determined to ensure his team remains sharp and ready for whatever Carroll will bring to the field.
