Tampa Bay secures offensive line depth with Dan Feeney from Bills’ practice squad
The NFL landscape is ever-changing, and one of the most precarious positions for teams is maintaining depth on the roster, particularly along the offensive line. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took a significant step to bolster their line by signing versatile offensive lineman Dan Feeney off the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.
A timely addition for Tampa Bay
The Buccaneers’ need for reinforcements became apparent following a season-ending injury to starting right guard Cody Mauch during their recent victory over the Houston Texans. With this unexpected hole in their lineup, Tampa Bay acted swiftly, bringing Feeney, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 310 pounds, into the fold.
Feeney, a 31-year-old veteran, has had a considerable NFL journey since being drafted in the third round by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017. Despite his experience, he has yet to see action in a regular season game for the Bills after joining their practice squad earlier this season.
Experience across multiple teams
Over the course of his career, Feeney has participated in 120 games, starting 65 of those. His previous stints include time with the Chargers, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings, showcasing his adaptability and experience in different offensive schemes.
Feeney’s trajectory has seen him shift from a full-time starter with the Chargers—where he started every game from 2018 to 2020—to a more limited role in recent years. Since the start of the 2021 season, he has made only eight starts, including one in 2023 with the Bears, and spent time as a backup center with the Vikings.
A strategic move amidst roster challenges
This signing reflects Tampa Bay’s commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in the crowded NFC South. Feeney’s familiarity with various offensive strategies and ability to play multiple positions on the line make him a valuable asset. His experience could prove crucial as the Buccaneers navigate the challenges of the season ahead.
With the Buccaneers set to rely on Feeney’s prowess, the hope is that he can seamlessly integrate into the lineup and help solidify an offensive front that is essential for both the running game and protecting the quarterback. As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on how this veteran will adapt to his new role and contribute to Tampa Bay’s quest for success.
