Mike Evans Returns to Practice Ahead of Crucial Matchup Against Saints
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are gearing up for their second divisional clash of the season as they prepare to face the New Orleans Saints. Earlier this year, the Bucs managed to secure a victory over the Saints in Week 8, but they did so without their star wide receiver, Mike Evans. This weekend, however, could see a different scenario unfold as Evans has returned to practice following a collarbone injury he sustained in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions.
Possibility of Evans’ Return
While it remains uncertain whether Evans will take the field against the Saints, the mere chance of his participation has generated excitement within the Buccaneers’ camp. Quarterback Baker Mayfield expressed his enthusiasm about Evans potentially rejoining the lineup, highlighting the significant impact the veteran wideout has on the game.
“Mike just attracts so much attention,” Mayfield noted. “His playmaking ability is great to have, obviously. I can trust him and know where he’s going to be. It really affects how a defense is going to play you and how a coordinator is going to call the game.”
Mayfield also acknowledged the importance of fellow receiver Jalen McMillan, who has been working hard to return from injury. “Hopefully, he keeps heading in the right direction. It will keep getting better for us,” Mayfield said. However, he emphasized that the team is currently equipped to win with the players available. “We have all we need to win right now. Those pieces will be bonuses for us, but we need to execute with what we have right now.”
Bucs’ Strategy Without Evans
The Buccaneers demonstrated their capability to execute their game plan effectively without Evans or McMillan during their previous encounter against the Saints. However, adding Evans could significantly ease the challenge, especially in a matchup the Bucs are expected to win.
Although Evans has recorded just 14 receptions for 140 yards and one touchdown this season, his presence on the field remains formidable. Known for his exceptional ability to win jump balls, Evans could prove invaluable in helping the Buccaneers break through man coverage defenses, a struggle they have faced this season.
As the Buccaneers set their sights on the Saints, the matchup promises to be critical, with kickoff scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. The team hopes to capitalize on the potential return of Evans to enhance their chances of securing another victory in the division.
