Tampa Bay Buccaneers embrace massive comeback with Desmond Watson, ready for action after meeting weight goal

Buccaneers Welcome Desmond Watson Back After Significant Weight Loss

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made a pivotal decision regarding defensive tackle Desmond Watson, bringing him back into the fold after a challenging offseason.

Watson, who previously showcased his talent with the Florida Gators, was released by the Buccaneers at the conclusion of training camp. His departure came after he was unable to practice due to being placed on the non-football injury list. The 6-foot-5 defensive tackle weighed in at a staggering 464 pounds at the NFL Combine, prompting the Buccaneers to set a weight loss goal for him before allowing him to participate in training activities.

A New Opportunity

Despite not meeting the required weight during the offseason, Watson remained hopeful. The Buccaneers invited him back for a workout at One Buccaneer Place last week, signaling their interest in his potential. It appears that Watson has successfully achieved the weight loss target set by the team, as reports indicate he has made significant progress.

According to sources, including FOX Sports’ Greg Auman, the Buccaneers have not only signed Watson to their practice squad but have also cleared him to begin practicing with the team. This marks a promising turnaround for the young defensive lineman, who now has the chance to showcase his abilities and contribute to the Buccaneers’ defensive line.

Looking Ahead

With Watson’s return, Tampa Bay is looking to bolster its defensive front. The Buccaneers have high hopes for the former Gators standout, who possesses the physical attributes and skills necessary to make an impact in the NFL. As he steps back onto the practice field, Watson will aim to prove that he is ready to take on the challenges of the upcoming season.
