T.J. Watt sidelined for Dolphins clash after lung surgery
As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for their pivotal Week 15 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, the injury report has revealed some startling news, particularly concerning star pass rusher T.J. Watt. In a rare and concerning move, the Steelers have officially ruled Watt out for the game following lung surgery. The surgery was necessitated by an incident during a dry needling treatment, as noted by his brother, J.J. Watt.
Dolphins deal with cornerback concerns
On Miami’s side, the injury situation is also evolving. Starting cornerback Jack Jones has been added to the injury report due to a knee ailment, participating in practice on a limited basis Friday. While it’s too early to determine the severity of Jones’ injury, it’s logical to assume it occurred during practice. The Dolphins have already faced considerable challenges in their secondary this season, with several players, including Kader Kohou, Artie Burns, Storm Duck, and JuJu Brents, landing on injured reserve.
Should Jones be unable to play against the Steelers, Miami’s options for filling his position opposite veteran Rasul Douglas would include Ethan Bonner, rookie Jason Marshall Jr., newcomer A.J. Green III, or Isaiah Johnson, who was recently elevated from the practice squad. Among these, Bonner appears to be the most likely candidate to step up.
Dolphins injury updates
In addition to the situation with Jones, there were a couple of other notable changes on the Dolphins’ injury report. Center Aaron Brewer transitioned from limited participation to a full participant in practice, despite dealing with an ankle issue. Meanwhile, defensive back Elijah Campbell returned to practice on a limited basis after missing Thursday’s session entirely.
Steelers facing multiple absences
The Steelers are grappling with their own injury challenges, as five players missed practice for a second consecutive day. Notably, backup wide receiver Ben Skowronek was replaced on the DNP list by veteran defensive lineman Cameron Heyward, who has been dealing with a knee injury. However, Heyward’s participation in a media session following practice suggests that his issue may be minor.
Watt’s absence, alongside Heyward’s status, is compounded by rookie first-round pick Derrick Harmon, who also sat out due to a knee injury. Harmon was unavailable during the Steelers’ recent 27-22 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, raising concerns about the depth of the team moving forward.
Additionally, wide receiver Calvin Austin III has been added to the injury report with a calf issue and was listed as a limited participant in practice. The Steelers will need to navigate these injury challenges carefully as they look to secure a crucial win against the Dolphins.
