T.J. Watt poised for return as Steelers chase AFC North title
The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for a significant boost on the defensive front as they aim for their first AFC North title since 2020. This potential lift could come from none other than outside linebacker T.J. Watt, who has been sidelined due to a partially collapsed lung. The injury occurred following a dry needling procedure at the team facility before their crucial Week 15 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
Tomlin’s Insights on Watt’s Return
During his weekly press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin shared insights into Watt’s recovery process. He emphasized that Watt’s return hinges more on regaining his football conditioning than on the physical healing from his injury.
“I think that’s a fair estimation, but again, I’ll speak in terms of his medical,” Tomlin explained. “I think for me to talk about injuries is one thing; to talk about medical is something else. And so that’s one of the reasons why I’ve been a little bit hesitant, besides my lack of expertise on the subject matter.”
Looking Ahead to Practice
Tomlin also hinted at the possibility of Watt rejoining the team on the practice field this week, should the Steelers believe his presence is necessary ahead of their pivotal Week 17 clash against the Cleveland Browns.
“Again, I don’t have that information as I sit here today,” Tomlin remarked. “I’m hopeful.”
As the Steelers prepare for the final stretch of the regular season, the return of their star linebacker could prove crucial in their quest for the division crown.
