Steelers Seek Offensive Line Reinforcements

The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively pursuing enhancements to their offensive line, and on Tuesday, they turned to a familiar face in their quest for depth. Offensive lineman Nate Herbig was invited for a workout, signaling the team’s interest in bolstering their roster. However, initial talks did not culminate in an agreement between the two parties.

Herbig’s Journey with the Steelers

Nate Herbig first joined the Steelers in 2023, where he took on the role of a reserve lineman. During his inaugural season with the team, he showcased his versatility by participating in all 17 games, although he only made two starts. His contributions were crucial, yet he was primarily utilized in a backup capacity.

As the 2024 season approached, Herbig was poised to compete for the starting center position. Unfortunately, his aspirations were derailed by an injury that placed him on injured reserve. This setback opened the door for Zach Frazier, who stepped into the starting role. Ultimately, Herbig was unable to make a return, leaving his future with the Steelers uncertain.

Transition to the Commanders

Following his stint in Pittsburgh, Herbig found himself with the Washington Commanders. This transition marked another chapter in his career as he sought to make an impact elsewhere. While the Commanders provided a fresh opportunity, the Steelers’ recent interest indicates that Herbig’s journey in the league may not be over just yet.

As the Steelers continue their search for offensive line stability, the possibility of rekindling their relationship with Herbig remains on the horizon, though a deal has yet to materialize.
