Steelers recruit ex-Patriot Ja’Whaun Bentley to gain inside edge before facing New England in pivotal Week 3 clash

Steelers Sign Former Patriots Linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley

The Pittsburgh Steelers have bolstered their defensive lineup by signing linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley, a former standout with the New England Patriots, just ahead of their crucial Week 3 matchup against his former team.

Bentley, who had a significant seven-year tenure with the Patriots, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Steelers’ practice squad. According to reports, the signing was confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

A Proven Track Record

During his time in New England, Bentley appeared in 83 games, starting 68 of them. The 29-year-old was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft after a successful collegiate career at Purdue. Over the course of his career, he has amassed impressive statistics, including:

509 total tackles
21 tackles for loss
10.5 sacks
Four forced fumbles
One fumble recovery
11 pass deflections
Two interceptions

Despite his accomplishments, Bentley’s previous season was marred by injury. He played only two games in the 2022 season due to a torn pectoral muscle sustained in Week 2, which ultimately sidelined him for the remainder of the year.

Strategic Advantage Ahead of Week 3

The addition of Bentley is not just a depth move; it could provide the Steelers with valuable inside information as they prepare to face the Patriots. Bentley’s familiarity with New England’s system and personnel could prove advantageous for the Steelers, who are looking to gain an edge in this pivotal matchup.

Bentley joins another former Patriot in Pittsburgh, safety Jabrill Peppers, further solidifying the Steelers’ connection to New England’s past. As the team gears up for their encounter, Bentley’s insights may play a crucial role in shaping their game plan.

With the Steelers anticipating a challenging game against the Patriots, Bentley’s presence on the practice squad could make a significant impact, both in preparation and in the performance on the field.
