Harmon Set for Return in Week 16
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have felt the absence of rookie defensive tackle Derrick Harmon as he navigates a knee injury. This setback, his second of the season, has sidelined him for two full games and part of another, leaving a noticeable void in the Steelers’ defensive lineup.
In Harmon’s absence, the Steelers’ run defense has struggled significantly, allowing over 200 rushing yards in consecutive games. While there was a glimmer of hope for a return against the Miami Dolphins in Week 15, Harmon was ultimately unable to take the field. The Steelers showed some signs of improvement that game, yet the stark contrast in their defensive performance with and without Harmon remains evident.
Tomlin’s Encouraging Update
Looking ahead to Week 16, optimism is building regarding Harmon’s potential return. Head coach Mike Tomlin provided a promising update during his weekly press conference, hinting that Harmon could be back in action when the Steelers face off against the Detroit Lions.
Tomlin revealed that Harmon was actually fit enough to play in Week 15, but the decision to hold him back was strategic. “It wasn’t a matter of health,” Tomlin stated. Instead, he wanted to ensure that Harmon was fully prepared after limited participation in practices throughout the week.
With the stakes rising as the season progresses, having Harmon back on the field could be a game-changer for the Steelers’ defense, enhancing their chances of stifling the Lions’ offense and regaining momentum as they push toward the playoffs.
