Steelers and Raiders trade shocker: Powers-Johnson eyed in surprise move for Pittsburgh’s playoff push

Date:

Steelers Eyeing Powers-Johnson in Strategic Trade Move

The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively seeking reinforcements as they gear up for a playoff push, particularly eyeing the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson. With the Steelers looking to strengthen multiple positions and the Raiders facing a disappointing season, this potential trade could benefit both teams.

Trade Talks Heat Up

Throughout the regular season, the Steelers and Raiders have been mentioned as possible trade partners. The Steelers are in dire need of assistance, especially on the offensive line, as they aim to solidify their roster for the postseason. The Raiders, on the other hand, find themselves out of playoff contention, making them more willing to part with assets.

While there has been significant buzz around veteran receiver Jakobi Meyers as a target for Pittsburgh, attention is increasingly shifting toward Powers-Johnson. In a recent analysis, it was noted that the Steelers could capitalize on the Raiders’ current situation, with Powers-Johnson being a logical addition.

Versatility on the Line

Powers-Johnson, who was drafted as a center out of Oregon, has shown his versatility by logging significant snaps at both center and guard throughout his professional career. This adaptability is a valuable asset for the Steelers, especially as they navigate injuries and depth concerns along their offensive line.

At just 22 years old, Powers-Johnson offers the potential for growth. Despite a challenging season in Las Vegas, including being benched during a Week 7 matchup against the Chiefs, he has the talent to thrive in a more favorable environment. His ability to play multiple positions could provide much-needed insurance for the Steelers.

Addressing Injury Concerns

The Steelers’ offensive line has faced its share of challenges, notably with veteran left guard Isaac Seumalo suffering a pectoral strain during a recent game against the Green Bay Packers. While Seumalo is expected to suit up against the Indianapolis Colts, there are concerns about the possibility of re-injury. Should that happen, Spencer Anderson is poised to step in.

Bringing in Powers-Johnson could serve as a proactive measure for Pittsburgh. He could seamlessly slot into the offensive line alongside center Zach Frazier and right guard Mason McCormick, both of whom are also in their second NFL season. This infusion of youth and versatility might be just what the Steelers need as they approach the critical final stretch of the season.

Looking Ahead

As the deadline for trades approaches, the Steelers are likely to be active in their pursuit of bolstering their roster. With Powers-Johnson on their radar, Pittsburgh is positioning itself to make a strategic move that could enhance their chances in the playoffs. The potential acquisition not only addresses immediate needs but also adds depth and flexibility to their offensive line, setting the stage for a more formidable playoff run.
