Seattle Seahawks stumble as Philip Rivers orchestrates a comeback in Colts debut
The Seattle Seahawks have found themselves in a troubling pattern recently, struggling to find their rhythm in the early stages of games. Despite boasting one of the NFL’s most prolific offenses this season, the Seahawks have managed a mere six points by halftime in their last two outings. As the clock ticked down to the half in their latest matchup, Seattle (10-3) faced a seven-point deficit against Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts (8-5).
Rivers, making his long-awaited return to the NFL after an absence of 1,800 days, has demonstrated a surprising poise and efficiency. The 44-year-old veteran is doing just enough to keep the Colts in front, despite facing a lackluster performance from Seattle. Completing 10 of 16 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown, Rivers has played a pivotal role in helping Indianapolis outgain Seattle 152 to 80 in the first two quarters.
The Seahawks’ defense has struggled to contain the Colts’ ground game, allowing 73 rushing yards to a duo of Jonathan Taylor and Ameer Abdullah. The defensive unit has been unable to exert pressure on Rivers, who has expertly executed a game plan focused on quick releases and short passes. As the half drew to a close, the Colts held a 13-3 lead, leaving Seattle with much to ponder as they headed into the locker room.
With their season’s aspirations on the line, the Seahawks will need to regroup and find a way to ignite their offense in the second half if they hope to turn the tide against a determined Colts team.
