Seahawks Surge as Vikings Struggle with Injuries
Momentum is firmly with the Seattle Seahawks (8-3) as they prepare to face the Minnesota Vikings (4-7) at Lumen Field. The Seahawks have positioned themselves as one of the healthiest teams in the league, which is a significant advantage heading into this matchup.
Vikings’ Injury Woes
The Vikings are grappling with a slew of injuries that could severely impact their performance on both offense and defense. The most pressing concern is the absence of second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who is sidelined due to a concussion. In his place, undrafted rookie Max Brosmer is set to take the helm, a situation that will undoubtedly test the Vikings’ offensive capabilities.
Compounding the issue for Minnesota’s offense, starting guard Donovan Jackson is out with an ankle injury. Furthermore, left tackle Christian Darrisaw is listed as questionable with foot and knee injuries, creating uncertainty along the offensive line.
Defensively, the Vikings are also feeling the pinch. Starting outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard is questionable with a shoulder injury, while defensive tackle Jalen Redmond is dealing with a hip issue. Additionally, depth in the safety position is a concern, as both Theo Jackson (neck) and Josh Metellus (knee/shoulder) are questionable for Sunday’s game.
Seahawks’ Injury Update
While the Seahawks have enjoyed a relatively healthy season, they are not entirely immune to injuries. Third-string running back George Holani is out with a hamstring injury, joining rookie defensive tackle/end Rylie Mills, who is also ruled out with a knee issue.
Holani’s absence is particularly notable as starting running back Kenneth Walker III has been battling a glute injury, limiting his participation in practices this week. The Seahawks are likely managing Walker’s workload to ensure he is in prime condition for the game. Holani has contributed mainly on special teams throughout the season, having played in all 11 games, with carries in three of the last four contests.
Mills’ situation is also a point of interest. After recovering from a torn ACL sustained during his time with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoffs, Mills has just returned to practice after spending time on injured reserve. His injury was a significant factor that caused him to drop to the fifth round of the NFL Draft.
As the Seahawks look to capitalize on the Vikings’ misfortunes, the stakes are high for both teams. Seattle’s depth and health may very well be the deciding factor in this crucial matchup.
