Patriots Anticipate Return of Key Players Against Bengals
As the New England Patriots gear up for their Week 12 showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals, hopes are high for a significant boost in their offensive lineup. With the potential return of running back Rhamondre Stevenson and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, the Patriots are looking to capitalize on a favorable matchup against a struggling Bengals defense.
Stevenson’s Path to Recovery
Rhamondre Stevenson, who has been nursing a toe injury, is making strides toward a return. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel provided an optimistic update, noting that Stevenson has participated in practice without major restrictions this week. “He responded well to the practice,” Vrabel stated, reinforcing that if no setbacks occur, Stevenson is “in-line to play” this Sunday at Paycor Stadium.
Stevenson has been a key contributor for New England this season, amassing 279 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 83 carries. His return comes at a crucial time, as the Patriots face a Bengals run defense ranked dead last in the NFL. Cincinnati has allowed an alarming average of 166.4 yards on the ground per game, alongside 12 rushing touchdowns. This presents an opportunity for Stevenson to make a significant impact and help revive the Patriots’ ground game as colder weather sets in.
“I’m motivated,” Stevenson expressed when addressing the media. “Injuries happen in this game, and it’s very unfortunate. But I’m ready to get back out there with the team.”
Kayshon Boutte’s Potential Impact
In addition to Stevenson, Kayshon Boutte appears to be on track for his return after dealing with a hamstring injury sustained during the Patriots’ narrow victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. While Vrabel did not confirm Boutte’s status outright, his full participation in practice suggests he is ready to rejoin the offense.
Boutte’s presence would be a welcome addition, especially given the increased demands on fellow receivers like Stefon Diggs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, and rookie Kyle Williams. The Bengals’ pass defense is also vulnerable, currently ranked 30th in the league, allowing an average of 260.1 passing yards per game and 23 passing touchdowns. A healthy Boutte could exploit these weaknesses and provide a much-needed spark for the Patriots’ aerial attack.
Defensive Setbacks for New England
While the offense may see reinforcements, the Patriots must contend with the absence of linebacker Jahlani Tavai, who has been ruled out for personal reasons after missing much of the week’s preparations. Tavai, who began the season on injured reserve due to a calf injury, has only recently returned to the active roster. Since his comeback in Week 5, he has contributed 10 total tackles and 0.5 run stuffs. His experience and versatility will be missed as the Patriots navigate this critical matchup.
As the Patriots look ahead to their clash with the Bengals, the return of Stevenson and Boutte could be the key to reigniting their offense. With both players on the brink of returning, New England is poised to make a push as they seek to improve their standings in the competitive AFC landscape.
