Lathan Ransom Reflects on Learning Experience Ahead of Week 2 Matchup

Carolina Panthers rookie safety Lathan Ransom is navigating the ups and downs of his inaugural NFL season with a mature perspective. Following a limited debut in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he logged just nine defensive snaps and 12 on special teams, Ransom remains optimistic about his development and future playing time.

A Humble Debut

Ransom, a promising talent from Ohio State, did not see the field as much as he would have liked in the Panthers’ opening loss. He wasn’t alone in his limited participation; fellow rookie defenders Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen also faced similar situations, playing 18 and eight snaps, respectively. Despite the challenges, Ransom is taking it all in stride, focusing on the bigger picture of his career.

When reflecting on his playing time, Ransom articulated a wise outlook. “I’ve been blessed to have a lot of other teammates and friends who have been in the league and listen to their stories about when their time is coming,” he said. For Ransom, the key is to control what he can, work diligently every day, and absorb knowledge from the veterans around him.

Learning from Veterans

With seasoned safeties Nick Scott and Tre’Von Moehrig ahead of him on the depth chart, Ransom is eager to soak up the lessons they offer. “I got two older safeties playing ahead of me that I can learn from every day, and that’s what I’m trying to do,” he explained. His enthusiasm for the game and willingness to learn from experienced players underscore his commitment to improving and seizing opportunities when they arise.

Head coach Dave Canales has emphasized a philosophy that prioritizes player development. Earlier in the week, he indicated that he is actively encouraging his defensive staff to provide younger players like Ransom with more opportunities. “Our staff knows, we all know here we are developmentally minded,” Canales stated. “That’s our philosophy, whether that goes with our staff or with all of our players.”

Looking Ahead to Week 2

As the Panthers prepare for their Week 2 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium, the question remains: will Ransom see an increase in his playing time? The anticipation builds as fans and analysts alike are eager to see how the young safety will perform given a chance to contribute more significantly.

With the focus on growth and learning, Ransom’s journey is just beginning, and his determination to make the most of his opportunities will be critical as the season unfolds.
