Packers face uphill battle at Cowboys with key offensive line starters sidelined for Sunday night clash

The Green Bay Packers are gearing up for a challenging showdown against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, but they’ll be doing so without several key players on their offensive line. As anticipated, the team has confirmed that four starters will not be taking the field at AT&T Stadium. However, there is a silver lining on the defensive side of the ball.

Injuries Plague the Offensive Line

The Packers’ injury report revealed significant setbacks, particularly on the offensive line, where three players have been declared inactive for the pivotal matchup.

Zach Tom, Right Tackle: Tom has been ruled out due to an oblique injury sustained during the second half of the season opener against the Detroit Lions. After missing the Week 2 victory against the Washington Commanders, he made a brief return in Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns but only lasted one play.

Anthony Belton, Offensive Tackle: Belton’s status took a hit when he injured his ankle during Wednesday’s practice. He did not participate in practice for the remainder of the week and was officially listed as inactive on Friday. Coach Matt LaFleur expressed optimism, stating, “I don’t think it’s long-term,” indicating they expect him back soon.

Aaron Banks, Left Guard: Banks also suffered an injury during the victory over Detroit, dealing with a groin issue that kept him sidelined last week. He returned for the first half against Cleveland but did not finish the game. He was unable to practice leading up to the contest and was deemed doubtful heading into Sunday.

Defensive Bright Spot

Amidst the offensive line woes, there is positive news regarding safety Javon Bullard. After suffering a concussion in the fourth quarter of last week’s game following a collision with linebacker Quay Walker, Bullard was limited in practice but has cleared concussion protocols and will be active for the game. LaFleur praised Bullard’s competitiveness and physicality, noting, “He’s the epitome of what we want in terms of our play style. Pound for pound, if he’s not at the top, he’s right near the top of the toughest guys on our team.”

The Packers’ Starting Lineup

With Tom, Banks, and Belton sidelined, the Packers are expected to field a makeshift offensive line consisting of Rasheed Walker at left tackle, Jordan Morgan at left guard, Elgton Jenkins at center, Sean Rhyan at right guard, and Darian Kinnard at right tackle. This lineup reflects a significant lack of depth, with the only available backups being Donovan Jennings, Brant Banks, and Lecitus Smith.

Jennings, who was an undrafted free agent in 2024, spent his rookie season on the practice squad and is poised to make his NFL debut in some capacity, potentially contributing on special teams. Banks, also an undrafted free agent, rounds out a group of players who lack substantial game experience at this level.

Final Thoughts

As the Packers prepare to take on the Cowboys, they will face not only their opponent but also the significant challenge of a depleted offensive line. With the stakes high in this Sunday night clash, the team’s ability to adapt and overcome these injuries will be crucial for any hopes of success on the road.
