Osa Odighizuwa shines off the field with NFLPA Community MVP award

Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa has scored a significant off-field achievement, earning the NFLPA Community MVP award for Week 2. This recognition comes in light of his impactful contributions through the Odighizuwa Foundation, which focuses on supporting single mothers and their families.

Celebrating Single Mothers

Just ahead of the Cowboys’ highly anticipated matchup against the New York Giants, Odighizuwa hosted a heartwarming baby shower for 20 single mothers. This special event featured a lavish five-course meal, engaging games, and over $500 worth of essential items for each of the expecting mothers. Additionally, Odighizuwa provided informational packets loaded with resources aimed at helping the new moms access local support programs.

“I’m truly honored to be selected as an NFLPA Community MVP,” Odighizuwa expressed. “Giving back to my communities in both Dallas and Portland is something that’s very close to my heart. I believe every professional athlete has a responsibility to give back and set an example for the younger athletes who look up to us.”

A Legacy of Giving

The recent baby shower marks the second annual event organized by the Odighizuwa Foundation, which Odighizuwa co-founded with his brother, Owa. The brothers, along with their two siblings, were raised by their single mother, Abieyuwa, and are dedicated to uplifting families in similar situations. Notably, the foundation plans to host another baby shower later this year during the Cowboys’ bye week, extending its support to more mothers in need.

In November, the foundation will return to Portland, Oregon—where Odighizuwa attended high school—to continue its mission of assisting single-parent families.

Comprehensive Community Support

While the foundation prioritizes aiding single mothers, its outreach extends beyond baby showers. This past summer, the Odighizuwa Foundation successfully organized back-to-school drives in both Dallas and Oregon. These events provided over 150 families with essential school supplies and athletic equipment, demonstrating a commitment to the well-being and development of children in the community.

As the Cowboys prepare to take the field on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET against the Giants for their home opener at AT&T Stadium, Odighizuwa’s off-field success underscores the profound impact athletes can have in their communities.
