Giants Part Ways with Kicker McAtamney, Add Tight End Mang
The New York Giants have made a significant roster move, releasing kicker Jude McAtamney, who held an International Pathway Program (IPP) practice squad exemption. In his place, the team has signed tight end Maxamilian Mang, who will now take on the IPP exemption.
McAtamney’s Struggles Lead to Departure
McAtamney, a product of Rutgers University, joined the Giants last season and had hoped to establish himself as a reliable kicker. However, his tenure with the team has been marred by inconsistency. During a stretch this year when starting kicker Graham Gano was on injured reserve, McAtamney participated in four games. Unfortunately, he missed three extra point attempts in just two weeks, raising concerns about his performance.
In total, he completed three field goals during his time with the Giants, with none exceeding 39 yards, and was successful on 10 of 13 extra point attempts. His inability to convert consistently ultimately led to his removal from the 53-man roster, after which he returned to the practice squad.
New Kicking Solution
The Giants have already taken steps to bolster their kicking situation by signing Younghoe Koo to replace Gano, who is back on injured reserve. Additionally, kicker Ben Sauls was added to the practice squad a few weeks ago, further indicating the team’s desire for stability at the position.
Introducing Maxamilian Mang
Maxamilian Mang, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 263 pounds, comes to the Giants from Potsdam, Germany. His college career at Syracuse primarily showcased his skills as a blocking tight end. Over the course of 63 games, he recorded nine receptions for 60 yards and one touchdown.
Mang entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, initially signing with the Indianapolis Colts. After being placed on their practice squad following training camp, he was released last week, making him available for the Giants.
As the Giants navigate these changes, the focus shifts to how Mang will fit into their offensive scheme and if he can contribute to the team’s success moving forward. The Giants’ adjustments reflect their commitment to enhancing their roster amid challenges, and fans will be watching closely to see how these developments unfold.
