Foster Moreau’s Injury Ends Season for Saints
The New Orleans Saints are facing a challenging conclusion to their season as they will now proceed without tight end Foster Moreau. After contributing one catch for five yards during the team’s Week 16 victory against the New York Jets, Moreau suffered an ankle injury that has ultimately sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
On Friday, the organization confirmed that Moreau has been placed on Injured Reserve, officially ending his 2024 campaign.
Rookie Tight End Matavao Steps In
In the wake of Moreau’s injury, the Saints have made a strategic move by promoting rookie tight end Moliki Matavao from their practice squad to the active roster. This decision underscores the team’s commitment to maintaining their offensive depth as they head into the final two games of the season.
“New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has signed tight end Moliki Matavao to the active roster from the practice squad and placed tight end Foster Moreau on Injured Reserve,” the team stated.
Matavao, standing tall at 6 feet 8 inches and weighing 263 pounds, was selected by the Saints in the seventh round of the NFL Draft, being the 248th overall pick. His collegiate career saw him shine at both Oregon and UCLA, where he accumulated impressive stats. Over the course of 50 games, Matavao recorded 74 receptions for 998 yards, averaging an impressive 13.5 yards per catch, along with six touchdowns.
In his final season at UCLA, he led the team with 41 receptions and 506 yards, finding the end zone twice. As the Saints look to finish the season on a high note, Matavao’s elevation to the active roster presents an opportunity for him to make an impact during these crucial games.
With the clock ticking on the 2024 season, all eyes will be on Matavao as he steps into a more prominent role within the Saints’ offense.
