Nakobe Dean Inspires Community Through Philanthropy and Earns NFLPA Recognition
A Standout Linebacker Making a Difference
Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean has not only made headlines on the field but also in his commitment to community service. Recently, the NFL Players Association honored Dean as the Week 9 NFLPA Community MVP for his outstanding efforts through the Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe Foundation. This recognition follows a significant initiative where Dean and his foundation provided over 100 students at Julia de Burgos Elementary School in Philadelphia with essential dental services.
However, Dean’s charitable contributions extend beyond dental care. The foundation also organized donations of winter clothing, meals, and haircuts at KIPP Philadelphia Preparatory Academy, showcasing a holistic approach to community support. This honor is a testament to Dean’s ongoing commitment to giving back, a value instilled in him from a young age.
Rooted in Philanthropy
In reflecting on his journey, Dean shared, “Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe is a foundation that me and my team started, mainly my mother. We’ve done a lot of philanthropy work ever since I was able to in college.” His mother has profoundly influenced his philanthropic spirit, encouraging their family to engage in community service throughout his upbringing. It wasn’t until Dean reached college that he formalized these efforts, launching the foundation to consolidate his community work.
“Our motto is ‘Reaching for the hand, but touching the heart,'” Dean explained, underscoring the foundation’s mission to create meaningful connections within the community. This recognition from the NFLPA adds to a growing list of accolades, including the Franklin D. Watkins Award, which Dean received in 2019 for his contributions to community service.
Balancing Football and Philanthropy
Despite the demanding nature of an NFL season, which encompasses 17 games, countless practices, and potential playoff appearances, Dean has seamlessly balanced his professional responsibilities with his philanthropic endeavors. He stated, “For me, it’s easy because I’ve been doing it my whole life. It’s never just been about football for me.”
With the holiday season approaching, Dean and Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe have ambitious plans ahead. He shared, “We have another one of those school tours in a couple of weeks. As far as Kind Hearts, we’re planning to do a Turkey drive this year. Provide food to the community. It’s probably going to be bigger this year.” Additionally, Dean is organizing a toy drive around Christmas, demonstrating his commitment to uplifting families during this festive season.
A Resilient Spirit on and off the Field
Dean has recently returned to the field after recovering from a severe knee injury sustained during the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers last season. Now back at full strength, he continues to make his mark on the field while maintaining his dedication to community service.
“I’m just blessed to be able to be a blessing for others,” Dean remarked. His passion for inspiring the younger generation shines through as he emphasizes the importance of reaching out to just one individual: “If I can just get through to one young person, that’s enough. That’s enough.”
Dean’s unwavering commitment to both football and philanthropy exemplifies the spirit of the Philadelphia Eagles. His ability to impact lives off the field while excelling in his sport makes him a standout figure within the franchise. Philadelphia fans can take pride in having such a dedicated athlete representing their team.
