Myles Garrett targets NFL sack record as Browns star dominates weak Titans lineup

Myles Garrett eyes NFL sack record as Browns’ star shines against struggling Titans

As the NFL regular season reaches its pivotal Week 13, Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns is on the verge of securing his second Defensive Player of the Year Award. His remarkable performance stands out, especially when considering the limitations of his team this season. However, the 2017 first overall draft pick may have his sights set on an even greater achievement—the NFL single-season sack record.

Garrett has already amassed an impressive 19.0 sacks over just 12 games. This total not only puts him a full six sacks ahead of his nearest rival, Brian Burns of the New York Giants, but it also surpasses the combined sack totals of three entire NFL teams: the Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, and San Francisco 49ers. Currently riding a six-game streak of at least one sack per game, Garrett is now eyeing the record of 22.5 sacks held by both Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt. With five games left in the season, he needs just 4.0 sacks to etch his name into the annals of NFL history.

Challenges Ahead for Garrett

The road ahead is certainly challenging, yet not insurmountable. The immediate focus is on the Week 14 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. This game carries significant implications for next year’s draft order, but for Garrett, it could be a golden opportunity to make history.

Garrett has already demonstrated his ability to dominate, having recorded 4.0 sacks in a single game on two occasions this season—against the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. The Titans have struggled throughout the season, leading the league with 48 sacks allowed, an average of 4.0 per game. This sets the stage for a potentially explosive performance from Garrett.

The Titans’ rookie quarterback, Cam Ward, has faced his own difficulties this year, which could further play into Garrett’s hands. Adding to their woes is left tackle Dan Moore Jr., a former Steeler, who has already been credited with surrendering eight sacks this season—up from 12 last year in Pittsburgh. As a unit, Tennessee has allowed at least 4.0 sacks in a staggering eight games this season.

It’s safe to say that Garrett likely has this matchup circled on his calendar, eager to capitalize on the Titans’ vulnerabilities and inch closer to that elusive record.

Looking Ahead: Week 15 and Beyond

Following the Titans, the Browns will face the Chicago Bears in Week 15. Chicago has made notable improvements in various areas since 2024, presenting another challenge for Garrett. However, with his current form, the defensive end is poised to continue his quest for greatness, keeping both fans and analysts on the edge of their seats as the season progresses.

With each game, Garrett not only inches closer to personal milestones but also solidifies his place among the elite defenders in NFL history. As the countdown to the record begins, the football world will be watching closely to see if he can forge a path to glory against the odds.
