Miami Dolphins shock NFL with five Pro Bowl hopefuls defying all odds

Miami Dolphins Make Waves with Five Pro Bowl Contenders

As the annual Pro Bowl voting kicks off this Thursday, the Miami Dolphins are poised to make a statement. While the event has lost some of its grandeur over the years, it still holds significance for player contracts and personal accolades. This season, five Dolphins players stand out as deserving candidates for a Pro Bowl selection, even as the voting can often lean more toward popularity than merit.

Jaylen Waddle, Wide Receiver

In the wake of Tyreek Hill’s injury suffered during Week 4 against the Jets, Jaylen Waddle has emerged as the Dolphins’ primary receiving threat. With 722 receiving yards, Waddle currently ranks 16th in the NFL. His performance on deep balls is particularly impressive, as he has solidified his status as a true WR1. He averages 13.19 air yards per target, placing him eighth in the league, showcasing his ability to win battles downfield. Despite the Dolphins’ passing game facing challenges, Waddle remains the driving force, significantly outpacing his teammates in yardage. Notably, he ranks third among AFC receivers and 11th in overall receptions, giving him a strong shot at a Pro Bowl nod.

De’Von Achane, Running Back

De’Von Achane has been a revelation for the Dolphins this season, establishing himself as the team’s most impactful player. Currently, he ranks fourth in the NFL with 900 rushing yards, trailing only notable names like Jonathan Taylor and James Cook. Additionally, Achane has made contributions in the passing game, with 54 receptions totaling 370 yards. While it’s not ideal for a running back to lead the team in catches, Achane has excelled with the chances given to him. His improvement in contact balance and vision has been remarkable, addressing prior shortcomings. Although he faces stiff competition from established stars in the AFC, Achane’s performance speaks volumes about his potential.

Jordyn Brooks, Linebacker

On the defensive side, Jordyn Brooks has solidified himself as the team’s MVP. He is on track to record the second-highest tackles by a Dolphins linebacker in a single season, currently leading the league in total tackles. His prowess extends to defending against the run and making impactful plays behind the line of scrimmage, including 11 QB pressures and 2.5 sacks. Initially, Brooks had to contend with a young defensive line, but as their performance has improved, so has his ability to make significant contributions. With Roquan Smith battling injuries this season, Brooks stands a solid chance at earning an AFC Pro Bowl selection.

Aaron Brewer, Center

Aaron Brewer has quietly established himself as one of the premier centers in the NFL over the past two seasons. While he may not have the fame of other centers like Jason Kelce, Brewer possesses exceptional athletic ability that allows the Dolphins to execute a diverse running and screen game. This season, Brewer has yet to allow a sack and has only given up ten pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. The competition in the AFC is fierce, with players like Creed Humphrey and Tyler Linderbaum vying for recognition, but Brewer’s performance has been nothing short of stellar.

Patrick Paul, Offensive Tackle

In a close race for recognition, Patrick Paul, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, and punter Jake Bailey were all in contention for this last spot. While Fitzpatrick has the edge in name recognition, Paul’s performance has arguably been the most impressive. As a second-year tackle, he has started every game this season, stepping up in place of the injured Terron Armstead. Paul has allowed just two sacks and 12 pressures, often facing challenging matchups without much assistance. His ability to handle elite pass rushers, including Myles Garrett, while playing next to a struggling rookie speaks volumes about his development. Despite lacking widespread recognition, Paul is playing at a Pro Bowl-caliber level.

The Dolphins have made significant strides this season, and as Pro Bowl voting unfolds, the performances of these five players reflect their dedication and skill. The recognition they seek may hinge on the votes of fans, but their contributions on the field are undeniable.
