Chop Robinson’s Injury Looms Large
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has expressed concern over edge rusher Chop Robinson’s status following a concussion sustained during the team’s recent defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. McDaniel’s remarks reflect a sense of urgency and uncertainty: “I’m worried about him getting back to full steam ahead. Timelines? Your guess is as good as mine.” The coach’s lack of optimism regarding Robinson’s ability to clear concussion protocol before Sunday’s clash adds to the Dolphins’ challenges.
The absence of Robinson is particularly significant, especially in light of the recent trade that sent Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles. With these two key players out, the Dolphins’ edge rusher depth has been critically tested against a formidable opponent like reigning MVP Josh Allen.
Assessing the Remaining Edge Rushing Corps
In the wake of these injuries, the Dolphins are left with a considerably diminished group of edge rushers. The current roster includes Bradley Chubb, Matthew Judon, Cameron Goode, and newly signed Andre Carter II, who was added from the Detroit Lions’ practice squad.
McDaniel remains hopeful, noting, “There are a lot of guys who have the potential to contribute. We have depth at the position, as far as guys executing what needs to be done.” However, the reality is that the Dolphins’ edge rushing unit is under significant strain.

Judon and Goode: Potential Contributors?
McDaniel has pointed to Judon as a potential player to step up in Robinson’s absence. Yet, that optimism is tempered by Judon’s lackluster production, having recorded only five pressures in 66 pass-rush snaps this season, translating to a mere 7.6% pressure rate. His snap counts have remained relatively low, fluctuating between 18 to 20 since the season began.
Goode’s experience is also limited, with just 94 defensive snaps over three seasons, including a scant six in the current campaign. The lack of experience and production from the remaining edge rushers raises concerns about their ability to pressure Allen, who excels at dissecting defensive schemes.
