Miami Dolphins rocked as Larry Borom added to injury report before Steelers showdown

Dolphins Face Injury Setback Ahead of Steelers Matchup

The Miami Dolphins are bracing for a challenging showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night, as they have added backup offensive tackle Larry Borom to their injury report due to an illness. Listed as questionable, Borom joins safety Elijah Campbell, who is doubtful, and fellow offensive lineman Andrew Meyer, also questionable, as the only Dolphins players with uncertain game statuses.

Injury Implications for Miami’s Offensive Line

Borom’s participation in the game is crucial, especially considering he has logged 584 snaps this season, primarily filling in at right tackle for Austin Jackson. His performance has been commendable, starting 10 games before Jackson returned to the lineup. Although Borom is no longer a starter, his versatility and experience make him a valuable asset as injuries can often strike at any moment. With Jackson’s history of injuries, Borom is one of the backups most likely to see significant playing time. Additionally, he possesses experience at left tackle, potentially making him the next man up should Patrick Paul need a breather.

Potential Practice Squad Elevation

Should Borom be unable to suit up on game day, the Dolphins may consider elevating an offensive lineman from their practice squad. Kion Smith stands out as a prime candidate, having started several games at right guard earlier in the season before being cut and then re-signed to the practice squad. The Dolphins will need to make a decision by 4:00 p.m. on Monday to finalize their roster ahead of the Steelers matchup. Smith was notably replaced by Cole Strange, who has solidified his position at right guard since taking over in Week 4, playing alongside Borom until Jackson’s return.

Miami also has Kendall Lamm available on the active roster, capable of filling in at tackle if necessary, although he was a healthy inactive last week against the Jets in favor of Smith.

Dolphins’ Overall Health Status

While Borom’s addition to the injury report is concerning, the Dolphins are largely in good health as they prepare for this must-win game. Key players like running back De’Von Achane, center Aaron Brewer, cornerbacks Rasul Douglas and Jack Jones, offensive guard Jonah Savaiinaea, and edge rusher Chop Robinson were listed on the injury report this week. However, all are expected to be available for the game, ensuring Miami is not missing any starters.

Steelers’ Injury Concerns

On the other side of the field, the Steelers are facing a tougher injury situation. Star linebacker T.J. Watt will be sidelined after undergoing surgery for a punctured lung this week, and cornerback James Pierre has also been ruled out. Pierre has been a reliable component of the Steelers’ secondary this season. A key player to monitor is rookie defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, who is currently listed as questionable. Harmon is recognized as the Steelers’ top run defender, and his absence would significantly impact the team’s defensive line stability.
