Marvin Harrison Jr. fuels Cardinals’ hopes with promising return to practice
Marvin Harrison Jr. is making significant strides as the Arizona Cardinals prepare for their upcoming clash against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13. After missing the previous two weeks due to appendicitis, Harrison has been a consistent presence at practice, appearing for the third consecutive day. His return brings a glimmer of hope for the Cardinals, who have been navigating the challenges of injury-riddled lineups.
Harrison’s participation has been limited in the early stages of the week, with updates from practice expected later today. Although he may be tagged as questionable heading into the weekend, the fact that he has practiced for three days straight indicates a positive trajectory in his recovery.
Navigating a Unique Injury
Appendicitis is not a typical entry on an injury report, and Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon expressed confidence in the team’s medical staff, who have expertly managed Harrison’s rehabilitation.
“You got to trust the experts with that one,” Gannon stated. “Our guys do a good job. We reach out on every injury, but that one, I don’t know if I’ve ever been around a player that had that. Just talk to all the experts and see what they think. There’s a natural progression that goes into return to play. He’s having a good week so far.”
Reintegrating Harrison into the Offense
As the No. 4 overall pick in the recent draft, Harrison’s return coincides with a surge in production from receiver Michael Wilson, who has stepped up significantly in recent weeks. The Cardinals’ offense is poised for an exciting dynamic shift with Harrison back on the field, alongside an improved Wilson and standout tight end Trey McBride.
Quarterback Jacoby Brissett acknowledged the challenge of distributing the ball effectively among the talented trio. “When we install the plan and figure out who’s up and where we’re putting the guys, that answers a lot of those questions,” he shared. “Obviously, today’s first and second down stuff, so finding ways to use both of them and Trey and Greg Dortch. All those guys are very deserving of the ball, so Offensive Coordinator Drew Petzing has his work cut out for him this week. I’m excited to see how it unfolds.”
Gannon’s Simple Solution
In response to the question of how to allocate targets amongst the offensive weapons, Gannon offered a straightforward approach: “Yeah. Throw it to the guys that are making plays for you. Absolutely.”
As the Cardinals refine their game plan leading into Sunday’s matchup, the return of Harrison could prove pivotal in expanding their offensive options and enhancing their chances for success on the field. With his presence back in the fold, the Cardinals are looking to capitalize on the momentum and creativity that he brings to the game.
