Mark Andrews fades from spotlight as Ravens’ former star tight end struggles to find footing in new season dynamics

Mark Andrews struggles to regain form as Ravens adjust offensive strategy

Mark Andrews faced a disheartening end to the previous season when a pivotal drop derailed the Baltimore Ravens’ playoff ambitions. As the new season unfolds, his struggles continue, and his impact on the field has noticeably diminished. The tight end, once a cornerstone of the Ravens’ offense, now finds himself grappling with an uncertain role.

In the opening two games of the season, Andrews has managed a mere two receptions for a scant seven yards. This lack of productivity stands in stark contrast to the Ravens’ impressive offensive output, where they have collectively scored 81 points. The disparity raises eyebrows and prompts questions about Andrews’ place in the team’s evolving game plan.

A shift in the Ravens’ offensive dynamics

ESPN’s Jamison Hensley has weighed in on Andrews’ plight, suggesting that this could signify the beginning of a troubling decline. “Andrews has surprisingly not been part of the Ravens’ game plan,” Hensley notes. Once a favorite target of quarterback Lamar Jackson, Andrews has seen his role diminish significantly, garnering only four targets so far. This is particularly striking given that tight end Isaiah Likely has been sidelined with a foot injury, which traditionally would have opened more opportunities for Andrews.

Despite running 38 routes, Andrews ranks just 24th among tight ends in this category, highlighting a concerning drop in usage. With Likely expected to return in the coming weeks, the likelihood of increased targets for Andrews seems slim.

Concerns about the future

The Ravens’ strategy appears to be shifting, possibly moving away from utilizing tight ends as prominently as in previous seasons. This change may not bode well for Andrews, who has built a reputation as a reliable offensive weapon. The hesitation to incorporate him into the game plan raises questions about his current form and future prospects.

For fans and analysts alike, the dwindling opportunities for Andrews are disheartening. His journey from a dynamic playmaker to a role player reflects broader changes within the Ravens’ offensive structure. As the season progresses, the tight end’s ability to reclaim his former status remains uncertain, leaving observers to wonder if he can adapt to these evolving dynamics.
