Lions rookie Isaac TeSlaa shines in practice return as Detroit gears up for Packers clash

The Detroit Lions resumed practice on Thursday afternoon, shaking off a scheduled day off and gearing up for their upcoming showdown against the Green Bay Packers. Among the notable developments, rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa made his return to the field after dealing with an illness that had sidelined him.

TeSlaa, a promising talent, participated in individual drills, demonstrating his resilience and commitment to the team. However, several players were absent, including running back Sione Vaki and linebacker Trevor Nowaske, both of whom did not participate due to their respective injuries. Offensive lineman Jamarco Jones was a recent addition to the practice squad, limited to a partial practice due to an ankle issue.

Confidence in TeSlaa’s Abilities

Offensive coordinator John Morton expressed his confidence in TeSlaa’s abilities before practice began. Morton noted that the rookie’s strong performance during training camp played a significant role in the team’s decision to trade veteran Tim Patrick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round draft pick. TeSlaa’s impressive showing in multiple preseason games highlighted his size, strength, and reliable hands, traits that the coaching staff believes will be crucial as the season progresses.

Head coach Dan Campbell has indicated that the team plans to utilize TeSlaa’s skills early in the regular season. The rookie is also expected to contribute on special teams, showcasing his versatility and value to the squad.

“Yeah, I think TeSlaa did a great job in training camp, here in practice, and he made plays,” Morton said. “He got better every single day, and that carried over to the game. We thought he did an unbelievable job. He’s a smart kid, he’s tough, and there are some good things that he can do that’s going to help us this year. He took advantage of the opportunity when Tim was out. Tim will be missed. I was around Tim in Denver, I love him. He was an unbelievable teammate and I wish him the best.”

Injury Report Highlights

The Lions also released their Week 1 injury report, which included the following updates:

Sione Vaki – Hamstring (Did Not Participate)
Trevor Nowaske – Elbow (Did Not Participate)
Isaac TeSlaa – Illness (Limited Participant)
Jamarco Jones – Ankle (Limited Participant)

As the Lions prepare to face the Packers, the focus will be on getting key players healthy and ready for what promises to be an exciting start to the season. TeSlaa’s return could provide a much-needed boost to the receiving corps as they look to make a strong opening statement against their division rivals.
